Abstract

Mount Sinabung in Karo Regency of North Sumatera is still active.  Training required for government and residents readiness of surrounding mountain to reduce disaster risk through the training of contingency plan model implementation.  This study aims to find a model of communication disaster readiness through the Table Top Exercise or TTX.  This research uses the descriptive qualitative method and data collection with interview, documentation, observation, and focus group discussion (FGD).  FGD participants divided into eight sectoral planning small groups, that divided according to their respective fields: a subdivision of disaster and post-disaster management, SAR and evacuation, health and psychosocial, evacuation and temporary shelter, water and sanitation, transportation, distribution and logistics, security and order, searching, and subdivision of special cattle.  The results of the study found that the implementation of disaster readiness communication model of Mount Sinabung eruption is optimal.  This communication is what needs to be improved when the eruption occurs.  The results of the study contributed as a policy for improvement for Contingency Planning Document as the Regulation of Head of Karo Regency that will be implemented at the end of 2018.

Puji Lestari, Universitas Pembangunan Nasional “Veteran” Yogyakarta

Dr.Puji Lestari,SIP,M.Si, lahir di Klaten tanggal 25 Juni 1970, dosen pada Program Studi  Ilmu Komunikasi  dan Magister Ilmu Komunikasi Universitas Pembangunan Nasional “Veteran” Yogyakarta, Lektor Kepala, lulus sarjana Ilmu Komunikasi (S1) di UGM 1994, lulus Magister Ilmu Komunikasi UNPAD 1999, lulus doktor UNPAD 2006. Penulis masih aktif menjadi dosen tidak tetap di Pascasarjana Universitas Islam Negeri Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta pada Kajian Komunikasi Masyarakat Islam (KKMI)  sejak 2015. Penulis aktif melakukan penelitian tentang komunikasi lintasbudaya, komunikasi bencana, komunikasi pemasaran, dan komunikasi organisasi.

Eko Teguh Paripurno, Universitas Pembangunan Nasional “Veteran” Yogyakarta

Eko Teguh Paripurno, initially renowned as environmentalist through KAPPALA Indonesia organization, in which he established in 1994. He finished his Doctoral degree in Padjajaran University, Bandung. He was awarded an honor of Social Entrepreneur on 2000 from Ashoka Global, and Sasakawa Award from UN-ISDR on 2009, as his efforts in community-based disaster risk management.

Arif Rianto Budi Nugroho, Universitas Pembangunan Nasional “Veteran” Yogyakarta

Arif Rianto Budi Nugroho a bachelor’s graduate of the Department of Geological Engineering, University of Pembangunan Nasional “Veteran” Yogyakarta acquired his Master in Remote Sensing & GIS from the Gadjah Mada University and he is currently a doctoral candidate at the Padjadjaran Univesity. He is an active lecturer at Department of Geological Engineering, University of Pembangunan Nasional “Veteran” Yogyakarta. In addition to teaching, he is also an active at Study Center for Disaster Research Education and Management.
